When the question of future enlargement of the European Union is asked most if not all European foreign ministers have no time to think about any large projects, especially ones concerning constitutional order types like enlargement.
With the recent fall and bail out of the Greek government crisis has made it questionable to European politicians if the EU should even consider expanding any further. Time will give the answer regarding the future for the European Union’s expansion plans, if after a couple decades of EU integration and the Greek government still cannot be trusted with their budget dealings. What about new poorer countries like Kosovo, can they be trusted at their word or is it to be expected that countries such as Germany will have to bail them out as well?
The decision for future expansion of the EU will no doubt be made in debates with Germany, France, Netherlands and Belgium. The arguments about enlargement used to be about spreading freedom and that of reuniting Europe and preventing war, which most voters were willing to accept. But now these arguments are not appealing compared to the economic concerns of EU voters, especially after the recent financial troubles with Greece.
