On February, 26th 2001, the Treaty of Nice was signed into law in Nice, France. Although the treaty was signed on February 26th 2001, that law took immediate effect for, February 1st 2003. The Treaty of Nice was launched as an amendment to both the Treaty on European Union and Treaty of Rome. The treaty of European Union, crated the European Union and the Euro currency. The Treaty of Rome established both the European Economic and Atomic Energy Communities.
The provisions of the Treaty of Nice was first and foremost to approve more eastward expansion, enlarge the number of seats within the European Parliament, the creation of subsidiary courts, closer co-operation within the courts and to launch provisions to deal with the European Coal and Steel Community.
On the other hand, the Treaty of Nice did fail to deal with increasing the European Union intuitional reform and the incorporation of the Charter of Fundamental Rights.
